Family Portraits

How to Prepare for a Great Family Portrait

When you meet with us to discuss your family portrait, there are several things to consider and plan for that will ensure everyone enjoys the experience and make the images that much more special. Below is our list of things to consider when planning a family portrait:

  1. Are there places or activities that will keep everyone engaged and generally happy? We can travel wherever you need us - maybe its a portrait outside your favorite restaurant or at the baseball field right before your annual game of whiffle ball. If its a beach session - go ahead and let the kids (and adults) play in the sand or surf - they might get a bit sandy, but the smiles and energy will be worth it!

  2. Timing and food are super important! Let us know the time of the day that your family members are most energetic so that we can avoid nap times or steer clear of an early morning session when everyone in the group is a night owl. We don’t recommend squeezing in a family portrait between other major activities; trust us - being a model is tough work! Throw in hungry kids or grand parents and you might just have a mutiny!

  3. If the session is outdoors, please let us know if anyone has difficulty walking since sometimes the best setting can far from the parking area. We often bring along a stool or chair if anyone in the group has difficulty standing for too long. If you are using our studio, please let us know if anyone cannot walk up stairs. We have both a ground floor and a first floor studio area, but we would like to know in advance which to setup for you.
